the times... they are a changing

I have not made art since my trip to Europe in October. I made 3 drawings there and I made a handful of colorful drawings in Nicaragua... all of which I will post next time.
I now co-own a coffee house and am part of an aerial performance coming up in the next two weeks.
I didn't pay my host on my website, so now I no longer have a website.
And there is no time to make art, and I am seeing all of the work that all of my friends are making and I am very inspired and jealous. So new years resolution: MAKE AT LEAST 1 piece of art a week.

Almost done

With 2 weeks left of classes, the whole thesis project is coming together. The rhinestones finally came in the mail, but it is a long slow process of attaching them.

I printed images on wallpaper to back my commemorative plates.

I had a left over dinner plate that I made a bit too small, so the big V is going on it.

Research

So I went to an exhibit of Romare Bearden yesterday in the Reginald F Lewis Museum, with my Africans in the New World class. Some really great collage work.

I also wanted to include the two books I just finished reading and would really recommend. One was Lies my teacher told me by James W. Loewen and the other was A Different Mirror by Ronald Takaki.

Lies my teacher told me was investigating history text books in the US and spoke about specific people and events that had been left out of textbooks and analyzed why.
Takaki does not speak at all about or to textbooks but is just a history book in itself and is really really informative. It goes through the different groups immigrating to the US throughout different time periods and the problems they endured and how they over come or attempted to over come these political and social problems.

In search of some Johnny Cash...

After along journey to Chile, I have returned, ready to get working on the final drag of my last semester as a college student and finally finish my thesis work. I was doing alot of re-educating while down in Chile, mostly about US history, and now I'm ready to finish the plates that have for too long stumped me.
Here are some photos from the Botched Taxidermy show:

These are the wonderful models I used for the Botched Taxidermy class before heading off to their new home.

This is a hat I had painted before heading down to Chile.

about updating...

I don't expect to update this much. I am continuing to work on the "america" letters project. I am in the process of gold leafing one set, I've buff and sanded another set and I am awaiting my rhinestones to bejewel the last set.
the "m" is giving me an impossible time, I can't count how many times I've had to remake it.

I'm a bit stuck on what to do with the plates. The making has got easier, but I don't know what direction I want to take them, what clay body, what finish, what types of images, who to "remember." So I'm glad I have atleast one project really down pat.

My Botched Taxidermy class put up a show last friday, I had some tile work included. I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them.

This is a pot I did for a friend of mine, there is this repeating image I keep creating from these photos I took from a hotel roof in Esteli, Nicaragua. I've drawn it, painted it and carved it many many many times, and still love it alot.

I'm also working on another commission right now,  2 large mugs, a plate and a bowl. I'll put some photos up when they are finished.

Now to go back to reading about history....

So..

I figured I would set this thing up to put up art that I'm working on. I'm in the middle of redoing my website, and trying to make it less childlike... aka taking off all of the images I have on there. So this will be all the stuff I'm working on that isn't really thesis related... and will probably be commission work and other fun stuff... like my sketch book.
Besos!
